What are Home Care Packages?
You might come across a lot of aged care names and acronyms when you first start researching your options. It can be confusing. But a Home Care Package is really what it sounds like. It is a package of different services bundled together to suit your healthcare and lifestyle that assists you to keep living at home as you age and to continue to enjoy your independence.
Only Government approved providers like HomeCare Options meet all the requirements to provide subsidised Home Care Packages.
Looking for care for Mum or Dad?
If you are the child of an ageing parent and concerned about Mum or Dad’s wellbeing at home, then a Home Care Package is ideal. Maybe one parent is living on their own or one is supporting the care needs of the other? You can get involved with the decision making process with your loved ones to help best personalise the package and support one or both of your parents. If you can’t visit as often as you would like, then be assured that a HomeCare Options staff member is popping in regularly and that your parent’s needs and goals are being regularly reviewed.
How do I access a Home Care Package?
If you or your family are feeling they need a little support to keep a loved one living at home as they get older, then you could be eligible for a Home Care Package.
You will need an aged care assessment (ACAT assessment) to access most government subsidised care including Home Care Packages.
This a free assessment that usually happens in your home and involves a team of healthcare professionals coming and speaking with you and your family about what areas of home life that you might need support with.
The team will also assess your level of need. There are four levels, starting with basic needs at Level 1 through to the highest level – Level 4.
Once you have this assessment, you can contact any provider you feel might best meet your needs.
If you want help organising your assessment, feel free to call our office on 1300 60 60 01 and we can assist or call My Aged Care 1800 200 422.
What does a Home Care Package cost?
Most of your Home Care Package will be subsidised by the Government but you will be asked to contribute where possible. All of the fees depend wholly on your individual circumstances, including your assessed level of care and your ability to afford the package.
The two fees that all providers charge include:
- a basic daily fee of up to 17.5% of the single basic Age Pension, and
- an income-tested care fee if your income is over a certain amount.
There are special circumstances where these fees can be negotiated if you are experiencing financial hardship.
